Lesson Planning
This week we worked on a lesson plan, I came up with a lesson plan on how to create an email. I have had a lot of patrons coming into the library and they are all asking how do I create an email? This was something that I think will benefit the library staff and the patrons by holding a class. Helping patrons is one of the main duties of library staff, so when you have 3-4 patrons a week coming in and asking how to create an email because almost everything they are doing or using needs an email you have a class that will help them with creating an email. You will also teach them in the class how they can send emails and use their google account. This is a way to get to know your patrons too and you are helping them in the process of getting to know them. It is a win win for the library staff and the patrons. This is also a way to show the patrons that the library and the staff do care about their patrons and their needs.
It always surprises me how many people do not have email addresses. I feel that this is probably something that people are sometimes timid to admit. By offering this as a class, you remove the awkwardness from the patron who is hesitant to ask for help and gives a safe space for them to get the instruction they are in need of. This is a very worthwhile lesson.
